I tried it just the WRONG way Kathy described here and yep, the string beans, sweet corn, and summer squash were total failures. Impenetrable flops.

The whole tangled mass of plants is pulled up together at the end of the season. Anybody who tries this with string beans, sweet corn, and summer squash and expects to pick these off and on through the summer is in for a disappointment. Please be specific. Many people try and fail because they don’t understand this.
